Grandmother’s Place, a Heritage House, is located in the Historic Town of Woody Point – a Town full of Magical Experiences. This stately two-storey Heritage House was built in 1910. Its architecture is somewhat different than many of the old houses that you might find situated along the coastline of many of our coastal communities. The architecture reflects the turn of the century lifestyle for a well-to-do merchant in the early 1900s. This house illustrates distinctive examples of "vernacular" architecture that is often a reflection of functional and structural needs rather than stylistic aims.
There are two large verandahs attached to the front of the house, the top one was always referred to by grandmother as the “Piazza”. The lower verandah runs along the full width of the front of the house was used as a reception area in its early years. With the attached verandahs, the house became even more of a social status within the community. The fact that the house is perched on the top of a hill, the height of the house gives it a very commanding position in the community. The front of the house is historically unique with its two large bay windows on either side of the main entryway. This house is quite spacious. It has a fully equipped kitchen, dining room, and living room,
